The push and pull of it

Want to know what driving using hand controls is like?

Tan driving

Tan in the drivers seat of a test vehicle using auto-adaptive hand controls.

It’s like rubbing your belly and patting your head.

The hand control on the left controls the gas and brake pedal, while the hand control in the right steers the vehicle. The first pushes forward to drive and back to break, the second spins left to right to control the direction of the van. It’s quite literally pushing and pulling all the levers at the same time.

Sounds complicated? You should ask him what it’s like to drive his wheelchair.
